The Hand Within

A glove lies quiet, shaped like a hand,
Its fingers waiting in the dust.
It holds the likeness of a plan,
Yet cannot move, cannot be trust.
It may be sewn with careful thread,
And keep the outline plain and true.
But cloth alone is stillness, dead,
Until a living hand comes through.
So are we formed with face and name,
With open palms and waking eyes.
We bear a shape beyond our frame,
A question under all our skies.
Some call it God, some call it breath,
Some name the light that makes us whole.
Yet every heart has known a death—
The hush that settles on the soul.
We walk through days of work and noise,
We grasp, we give, we lose, we find.
But purpose is a deeper voice,
A hand that moves within the mind.
The glove is not ashamed of need,
Nor is the hand too proud to dwell.
Together, they can serve and lead;
Apart, each tells a quieter tale.
So let us hold our questions near,
With gentleness for every way.
And leave a little room for fear
To open slowly into day.
For what we are is more than form:
A waiting shape, a breath, a plea—
A hand in glove, made whole and warm,
When love becomes the life in me.

Speaker B: Yeah, that makes sense. So, am I spiritually dead, you think? Like, I’m going to hell, you think?
Speaker A: Well, let me explain it in a way that really helped me kind of understand the spiritually dead thing. So, a glove was made in the image of a hand, right? The five fingers, so that a hand can fit inside the glove. And with the hand, the glove is useful. You can use it and it has a purpose. But without the hand, the glove is lifeless. That make sense?
Speaker B: Surprisingly, it does.
Speaker A: Okay, so track with me. In the same way, we were created in the image of God, right? So that God can live inside of us. And with God, we have purpose. We’re filled with His power, we’re filled with His strength, but without God, we’re spiritually dead. Does that make sense?
Speaker B: I think it does, surprisingly. So, you’re saying I was made in the image of God so that God can live inside of me and give me purpose.
Speaker A: Exactly, yeah.
Speaker B: I don’t think I’ve ever heard somebody break it down like that before.
