This Lullaby Now Our Muse

The dreams that make us look within

Make us review an alternate life inside

How the could have been… can be?

Or how the what was… really is?

Perhaps a way to uncover the dissonance?

recalculate the outcome?

re-experience the burden?

The perplexity onion

A sleeping mind continues to exert

A dozing psyche still sings

Sometimes we remember

Sometimes we forget

If awakened by the chorus

If aroused by canticle

Tis then can the awakened mind act

And only then can we bestir an entrusted intention

In slumber we retire the body

Cognition doth not always fade

In nightmare we struggle and worry

In vision we discern

Up to us how we choose

This lullaby now our muse

This Effervescent Sham

How can you tell

That the world is on fire?

If you can’t tell the rot-gut bottle

From the top shelf one that’s higher?

Why do we listen

To all the political hacks?

Have we never learned

From their past idiotic syntax?

Our relationships often fail

Quite often we do not learn

Find yet another similar situation

Find yet another one to burn

Hidden from a conscious effort

The duly noted quest

Distinguishable only by clear thought

In the muddied waters of the professed

We the human beings

Romp and trample about

To never learn from our failures

How can we possibly tout?

The braggart’s and peacock’s

Fumble themselves away

Never truly noticed

Despite the latest soiree

The talented one’s will see

This effervescent sham

What must they do?

If indeed they can?

Crossbones and Skull

The kindhearted people with words of callow

Trapped in their lexicon with limited use

See only the world

The lens inside of the hangman’s noose

The trouble with pain

The endurance of dispute

Poses their alternatives

Defines their repute

The teacher of heartache

The sting of the bee

Alters our sense

Reality

Resist the crash

Thirst for grace

Lift the spirit up

Not from the bottle

Nor from the cup

Our limitations of thought

Our limitations of mind

Imprisons our perception

Leaves us resigned

The embittered people

Take sight of their prey

Hawkish characters

Leads them astray

Clinging on to pain

Whining hearts left dull

Attend to the Victim

Crossbones and skull

In Solitude we Sus

Filled with worry

No end in sight

Wind myself up

To bring on the fight

In emotion we stumble

Forget our courtesy – We stammer and fall

Frustration and anger – We unleash upon the unsuspecting

As we set up our wall

When perception and expectation

Cannot be met

Ipso facto

We see all those before us only as debt

And so we carry on

Kindness bled out of our heart

Self-absorbed and abrasive

No smile in my day do I empart

How must we appear – To the watchful souls that surround us?

We stand with a fist

In solitude we jeer –  In solitude we sus

At the End of the Day

So you think you’ve got it all figured out

You’ve taken all the classes

You’ve read all the books

Where does it leave you at the end of the day?

When your friends stop listening?

Are you angry? Were you led astray?

Why do you invest in this energy?

Are your neighbors alienated?

Are your children convinced?

Are their egos deflated and their transgressions rinsed?

Think you have the high moral ground?

Think you have the better view?

Better think again

There is always something new

The minute you think you have it right

The second you believe it’s true

Somebody else will break it up

Someone else will find some fault in you

God knows we try

God knows we want what’s right

God help us

Prideful children running blindly into the night

Don’t tread on me

Don’t make me concede

Don’t make me obey

Don’t make me Plead

I’m independent

Not into the group think

I think for myself

Am I on the brink?

So you think you’ve got it all figured out

You’ve taken all the classes

You’ve read all the books

Where does it leave you at the end of the day?

When your friends stop listening?

Are you angry? Were you led astray?
