Being mindful in the present

It’s funny when you remember

Mistakes that you have made

Moments with your past loved ones

As time moves on they usually fade

But sometimes in a dream

The mind will reflect

Reviewing the old memories

You now seem to neglect

Awaking to what is here and now

Can benefit you greatly

Being mindful in the present

We can extinguish “What have you done for me lately?”

DCG

Just what will we confess?

According to the young hedonist folly

Pleasure will always last

But with age and experience

This idea will fade into the past

How many errors of judgement

Does it take for us to learn?

When all is said and done

To whom shall we turn?

According to Socrates

The unexamined life is not worth living

For the parent and the child

It’s all in the giving

For every point of view

Our willingness to express

Our need to find some meaning

Just what will we confess?

DCG

We are bound in the want to bare

I use my words in poem

To express what I feel and think

I use language and convention

As I place them down in ink

I share these thoughts to the world

As some may find meaning in my reflections

You can validate or you can falsify

I’m in this to make connections

Poetic digital philosophy

Seems to be my ware

Like open conversation in a coffee shop

Or discussion in the public town square

Humans have not changed much

Our need to belong and our need to share

The decades, the centuries, the millenniums

We are bound in the want to bare

DCG

If indeed we can?

You cannot bargain with truth

There is no negotiation

Only what is

No sophist pseudo-narration

Too many people are lost in words

Our language begets confusion

The argument now before them

Seduces their conclusion

Chuang Tzu from a butterfly

Awakening from a dream

Now I do not know whether I was then a man dreaming I was a butterfly, or whether I am now a butterfly, dreaming I am a man

What can we really say?

If indeed we can?

Find some appreciation

Find some appreciation

In others that you disagree

Recognize similarities

Even if in small degree

We must be our own counsel

With our conversational fashion

Do not emotionalize an argument

Step back from your passion

To acknowledge another view

Is a skill all must learn

Only we decide what we think

And who’s trust we must earn

DCG

Given to our inner voice

If you are depressed you are living in the past.
If you are anxious you are living in the future.
If you are at peace you are living in the present.

Lao Tzu

Where do we focus our attention?

Events that happen in the past?

Not attending to the moment

Reliving something we cannot change leaves us aghast

To try and predict the future

Always in a state of suspense

A misguided focus

Always living in self-defense

To live in the now

As there is no other choice

Releases our only freedom

Given to our inner voice

DCG

The Human Spirit

I see examples of what not to become

In people almost every day

Life in my community

There is so much to survey

But one must remember

In the same accord

People can be beautiful

There is much not to be ignored

Cynicism cannot be sustainable

As broken hearts can be mended

For every cynic found

Another optimist is apprehended

The human condition

remains perplexed

Those who may deceive themselves

Those who are vexed

The human spirit

On a path of discovery

Will find an answer

That may lead to recovery
