It just might be for your sake

The most powerful resource in the human condition

Our need to belong, our need for connection

Not unlike the power of Love

Not unlike the power of rejection

In our isolation

We struggle to prevail

In our disconnection

We are more likely to fail

A healthy social construct

Must be available for all

Given the state of humanity

We are destined to occasionally fall

Studies with Rat Park

Showed me without a doubt

He was right on the mark

So why don’t we hear more about this?

What else will it take?

Make this apart of your life

It just might be for your sake

The Truth Exerts it’s Irony

I have an ambition

To make a better me

End the tribulation

That prohibits me to see

Conflict can enslave us

Conflict can also free

Bring us to align with our values

Or bring us down on a knee

Guilt and shame are costly

They exact a terrible fee

The thing about forgiving ourselves

The truth exerts it’s irony

Those who are conscientious

Know of the amends they must make

Those with no moral guidance

Aimlessly wander despite any prior mistake

For this is our Civic Responsibility

I strive to see good in others

Yet I sometimes don’t see it in me

Why I fail to recognize this

Is why it comes so naturally

Despite my flaws

I must seek to balance continuity

Do not sell myself short

Focus on the positive and then refine myself with scrutiny

Listen to the feedback

Surrender to humility

Growth comes with patience

Understand the vulnerability

Be honorable and give oneself grace

Do not become your own liability

Learn it, embrace it, master it, teach it

For this is our civic responsibility

This Reality is Taboo

How long is the night?

When you are in despair

Suffocating without love

As you gasp for air

This may not be popular

This reality is taboo

How many have gone through it?

How many never review?

When parent wrestled a child

One that is their own

Sadistically chokes them in play

Calls them a pussy before leaving to answer the phone

The worst part of the story

A mother and brother watching, never lifted their hands

But there is no blame

For this memory that still stands

Fear is debilitating

For any reconciliation one must reach within

Forgive the sins against you

This is where you must begin

I Seek Confirmation

I seek confirmation

On my opinions I proclaim

I use social media

A proclamation of this self-indulgent fame

I find myself captured

In the divisive political realm

The arena of gladiatorial rhetoric

Will often take the helm

Speak to the hive mind

Cower to the mob rule

Will they forsake, will they join?

Will they ridicule?

We can’t change the discourse

We can’t change a rational mind

We can only beseech the guileless

For surely an allegiance we will find

I choose to post a meme

I find it easier to convey

The lowest form of humor

I relegate my sarcastic resume
