Why do we lie?

Is it difficult to tell the truth?

How do we measure in adulthood?

How do we measure up in our youth?

It takes character and courage to be truthful

We must first solve the problem of self deception

Before we can enter a relationship

When we may battle the fear of rejection

in many cases

It will not be clear

The respect we may earn

Over the judgment that we fear

But this is not to say

we should blurt out everything we think

Sometimes we can acknowledge and elude the truth

Along with a wink

In any example there exists

The fail-safe of humanity

The power of forgiveness

The way to keep our sanity

Some people will cause you pain

The lesson to learn

Will not always be in vain

You might be more cautious

Build a wall around your heart

Not willing to allow yourself to feel

Not ready to make a new start

The protocols of relationships

Is certainly a learned skill

Some you will hit, some you will miss

We take it as it comes, no need to be still

The question most often asked

When do you reveal?

How soon you bring up your emotions?

Just exactly what you feel?

Patience and time are good teachers

You may experience regret

I can most certainly promise you

The pain was caused by the expectations that were not met

I for one have learned many lessons

I have usually worn my heart on my sleeve

And if I had to do it again

If you freely give of yourself, you should not expect anything from what you receive!

This is a reality

Most people do not want

The attachment of expectation

Comes in many forms that will haunt

I would still rather live to be genuine and feel

Then to hide away in my cave

I was told I fall in love easily

Maybe it’s true and maybe it’s not

at least I can say

I know what I’ve got

Sometimes love can heal

Sometimes love can hurt

Sometimes love is forgiving

Rest assured, the heart will alert

If we stop risking

Taking a leap of faith with our heart

Living life without any love

Is one that is not very smart

You can admire from a distance

Though unrequited you can also love from afar

Unbalanced and clearly not ideal

Still better than to wish upon a falling star

These lessons that we learn

In the canvas of our lifetime

Our hearts will paint a picture

That only our hearts will hear the chime

They say to err is human

To forgive is divine

Take the self and ego out of the equation

Just what will you find?

Reciprocity is a factor

I cannot deny

Our happiness is essential

And this we should not defy

I saw how you looked at me

I saw the expression on your face

You had a happy smile

You were in a happy place

You present to the world, a strong woman

But I can also see 

The vulnerabilities deep within you

On occasion, you have shown to me

To protect ourselves, we guard our feelings

Not always knowing how they will come

I know you’ve felt exploited

Just when will this feeling be done?

Please forgive me

Why is this how I am?

I’m happy when you are happy

Maybe I am a sacrificial lamb?

Free from past emotional injuries

If you are in between two conflicting emotions

Converging destiny’s that may collide

A ray of sunlight dances on your head

In through the blinds a beam of light splits the night

As you lay upon your bed

The fragrance of your hair

The touch of your skin

Would almost guarantee

The defiance of a sin

I’m not sure the ways of this world

The nature of the universe in which we live

Over and over I wrestle with God

This inspiration I have that directs me to give

We travel on a similar path

Converging destiny’s that may collide

Is this why we gravitate towards each other?

Just how will we decide? How will we confide?

You may think we are too different

But this is not what I see

Those superficial differences are a distraction

Somehow I deeply feel you emotionally

You once told me I’m a man

And all that I want is to have you physically

If I told you something different

Than a liar I would be?

Prove you wrong, Prove you right

We shall have to see

I think maybe this choice

Is only decided by we

Thank you for the honesty

A clearer path ahead

The book tells us how to treat other people

If only we embrace?

Our world under the steeple

When idealism meets realism

How will you decide?

Trust in your pragmatism?

How will you resolve your pride?

Despite what you think of me

My mind will always tinker

I live by simple rules

I don’t know what the future holds

I leave it in Gods hands

The people I meet and care about

I pray they are in his plans

I pray that I may flourish

As an instrument of the good

I pray for my family and loved ones

As I hope this is understood

I live freely, I love deeply

I want to empower and give no harm

I offer kindness and devotion

Some will say that this is my charm

I learn looking backwards

But I must always focus on today

I am thankful for my blessings

We all want to share this newfound feeling

We all want to relish the what can be

The heart is filled with emotion

Why must we keep this to ourselves so silently?

How deep will this path take us?

How much are we willing to see?

A heart that is for the taking 

When will we give our key?

To start a new chapter in our life

We must first turn the page from the last

The thrill of seeing a new future
