At least that is what I’ve been told

Some people will become a part of your story

Whereas others will not

We may regret the ones we lost

We may regret the ones we  fought

The curious cases, we do not often see

Are those who are a great match

But we failed to recognize them properly

When thinking back we say

“ the one that got away”

When we get out of the way from ourselves

Be that as it may

We miscalculate

We don’t read the room

The mistakes of our ego

Makes us exclaim” I am a buffoon.”

If you reflect

And you take some time

You can iron out the wrinkles of your behavior

Since there are plenty to find

Good reasoning is usually the starch

After we launder the persona we wear

Might even make another spin cycle around 

Before we find the right pair

Our best measure to assess our happiness

Is found in relationships we hold

Proportional to our bonds

At least that is what I’ve been told

I self taught myself how to sing and play guitar

I self financed my way through school

College was expensive I worked very, very hard

But I still played it cool

First boy meets world

All the way to the adult

Many lessons learned along the way

But only one still remains my default

How does one earn and demonstrate?

Character and dignity?

When times get tough

We have to rely on this ability

We are strange creatures

Counting our bona fides like a peacock

Sometimes we don’t listen

When all we do is talk

If you really want to help

And prove your worth

To understand, humble yourself before others

Become the salt of the Earth

Only the pretentious will tally

The comments made for attention

To camouflage their insecurities

This exposes their intention

So what does it matter?

If I’m a hopeless romantic

When I see what I want

I am soon to go after

If there’s a chase

Then there will be laughter

People will come and go in your life

At some point you will find

There are only some relationships

That are worth getting behind

I think back in my life

I sum it up in this way

I’ve learned from those who have left

I’ve learned from those who have stayed

Mostly I learned about myself

My behavior and what sustains me

ironically it’s not about the self

It’s how we relate to others because that’s what I see

It takes two to tango

But one must follow and one must lead

One part, masculine, one part feminine

For conception one must provide the seed

Establish our roles

Communicate our needs is the dance we make

Building  something together

We benefit from what we create for our sake

Lovers are  lovers 

Friends are friends

The emotional dynamic

Produces a healthy friction for us to bend

I once told you

That I didn’t know if I could complete you

But what I didn’t say

Was even more true

I would never stop trying

That is if we agree

To make something out of it

I’ll prove every day you can trust me

I know these thoughts seem impulsive

But these words, I must speak

I feel a strong connection

As this is what I seek

I luv the way you express yourself

When discouraged you say you were mortified

When happy you light up like you have been electrified

Just a few of the reasons for my attraction

You’ve read my poems so you must be aware

I’m sending you these messages

Because I truly do care

Humility spawns gratitude

the ego must surrender

Before we can truly appreciate

The blessings that come before us

And the receptivity we communicate

The arguments we make

The scripts in our head

May often mislead us

From where we should be led

Most comedians will know

Humor that self-depreciates

Is widely accepted

They bypass any defense mechanism the audience would contemplate

Genuine gratitude

Is not the same as a gratuity paid

Much easier to transact a custom

Then transact an authentic feeling made

I wonder about the people

Impoverished emotionally

Alienated from humanity

Oh, what a travesty
